Religious Education (RE)

Religious Education is an important part of our curriculum and plays a key role in developing children's understanding of the diverse world in which they live.

Through RE, pupils explore a range of religions, beliefs and worldviews, encouraging respect, tolerance, critical thinking and thoughtful discussion. Children are supported to ask meaningful questions, consider different perspectives and develop an understanding of both religious and non-religious beliefs.

Withdrawal from Religious Education

Under Section 71 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child, either wholly or partly, from Religious Education lessons.

We believe that RE makes a valuable contribution to pupils' personal development and understanding of diversity. However, we recognise and respect the rights of parents to make decisions regarding their child's participation.

Parents wishing to discuss withdrawal from Religious Education are encouraged to contact the school. Alternative supervision arrangements will be made where appropriate, although schools are not required to provide alternative RE teaching.
